Gatton Joinery were brought onto the project by the main contractor, and were asked to produce the front counter and utility cupboards for the reception area of the iHub, formerly known as Derby Innovation Centre.

 

The iHub is the new build centre-piece of Infinity Park, an innovation and technology park in Derbyshires new Enterprise zone. iHub is an incubator-style, early-stage business and high-growth small and medium sized firms hoping to establish themselves. Businesses are technology based, typically within the aerospace, rail and automotive industries.

Reception desk and utility cupboards design followed a modern, tech-based, innovation design, perfectly fitting the iHub’s businesses and setting the scene for the buildings visitors.

 

Front counter is six metres long, three sided, curved to take advantage of a corner position, front faceted, with white Corian-clad throughout (including the back area of the desk), MDF-carcass, with LED strips embedded into MDF, but set behind the white Corian - giving a subtle glow, rather than a harsh brightness. The reception desk is a futuristic looking piece of furniture.

 

Staff-side of counter includes cupboards, ventilation for computers and integrated cables. Utility cupboards are white gloss MDF, housing all CCTV, lighting, heating, fire and other building utilities.
